Our club’s leadership team volunteered at the Hour of Code event organized by Carmel Girls Can Code Club and CHS computer science teacher Mr. David. In this event, we helped teach elementary school students basic coding concepts using Finch Robots and MIT’s Scratch programming language. We had a lot of fun helping out and appreciate Girls Can Code and the business department for putting on this amazing event.

This meeting was on Tuesday, November 14 in the Media Center Reference Lab until 4:00. We had our first quiz, recapped our meeting with Exodus Refugee Immigration Inc. and did an overview of web development. If you missed it please view our presentation to catch up.
This meeting was on Tuesday, October 31 in the Media Center Reference Lab until 4:00. We learned the foundational skills to work on our first project, especially Java. If you missed it please view our presentation to catch up.
Also, to help us get everyone’s skills ready for the next project, we will be doing just a bit of guided review within meetings. Basically, we will have a very short, low-pressure quiz every meeting. Afterwards, we answer any questions that people have. This is not to evaluate members, but simply to ensure we hit learning targets efficiently. Next week’s quiz will be on data types, variables, basic operators. If you need to learn/review any of these topics we recommend creating a Codeacademy account and doing the first 12 topics on Learn Java > Introduction to Java. This should probably only take about 15 minutes.
Also, please join our Discord server which will help with group communications. If you have any questions please comment in our #learning channel and we’d be happy to help!
